Except for tanned leather of approved animals. The importation of dried animal hides or stuffed animal carcasses (as trophies, ornaments, drum covers, etc.) would require an import permit from the Cayman Islands Department of Agriculture, which may be issued prior to importation on presenting an official health certificate from the country of origin. The original certificates must accompany such products on importation into the Islands. Hides and carcasses of endangered species would require an additional certification; that is a CITES Certificate from the CITES Management Authority of the country of origin. Hides and carcasses are prohibited from Asia, Africa, Central and South America, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Please Note:

• All animal, plant or plant products entering the Cayman Islands would require an Import Permit issued by the Department of Agriculture in the Cayman Islands.
• The cost of an Animal Import Permit varies, depending on the type of animal to be imported, (check with the Department of Agriculture for more information). The cost of a Single Entry Plant Import Permit is CI $5 or US $6.25 (this fee may be subject to change in the future, please check with the Cayman Islands Department of Agriculture).
• A completed Official International Health Certificate MUST be issued within 14 days of arrival in the Cayman Islands. A full time salaried veterinary officer of the national government of the country from which the animal is being exported must issue such certification.
• Cayman Islands are signatories of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), therefore, in many cases, CITES certificates are required for certain birds and plant species, especially Parrots and Orchids.
• Possession of a valid Import Permit does not guarantee entry. All animals, plants and plant products are subject to examination at the point of entry. An approved inspector who, at his/her discretion, may refuse permission for the animal, plant or plant product to be landed or arrange their destruction. Breed and good health of animals must correspond with declarations on Health Certificates. Plants and plant products must be free of pest and diseases.
