The Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control Service (CBC) repatriated an additional ten (10) migrants to the Republic of Cuba on Tuesday, 15 March 2023.

The ten male migrants departed on the chartered Cayman Airways SAAB from Grand Cayman at 12:30pm and arrived in Cuba at 1:45pm.

CBC Director Charles Clifford said “This was another successfully executed repatriation operation by our CBC team to Cuba and I thank our CBC officers for their diligence and professionalism. I must also thank the Government of Cuba for providing the requisite approvals for the orderly return of their citizens. Our repatriation operations will continue until all migrants who have been denied asylum in the Cayman Islands are returned to their country of nationality.”

Among the group repatriated, was a male migrant who was released from Northward Prison following his conviction and sentence for the offence of escaping lawful custody.

Irregular migrants, like all persons living in the Cayman Islands, are subject to the laws and regulations of the Cayman Islands and may be prosecuted if they commit an offence.
